Single Tooth Implant
Have you lost a tooth? If so, you might be wondering what restoration options might be available for a single missing tooth. There are many replacement options to consider, but if you are looking for reliable and long-lasting results, there is no competition to dental implants in the market currently. Although they might cost you a little more than other alternatives, the long-term benefits and ease of maintenance makes them a worthy choice.
At Thomas Family Dentistry, we carefully examine your oral profile and consider your expectations to come up with the ideal restorative treatment plan. Our dental surgeons can ensure that your single tooth implant stays with you for a lifetime. If you are interested in learning more about dental implants and why they are considered one of the best restorations, our staff would be more than happy to answer your questions.
During the initial consultation, your dentist will walk you through a comprehensive oral exam. This will help them determine your candidacy for dental implants. You may be asked to share a list of medications that you take on a regular basis, other underlying health conditions you are suffering from, and history of oral diseases and treatments you have received in the past.
Implant-supported restorations are typically carried out in three phases. First, a titanium post will be surgically placed in your jawbone and allowed to heal for the next few weeks. The healing process, also called osseointegration, is important considering we want the implant to fuse with the jawbone so it can hold the crown.
Once the implant fuses with the jawbone, your dentist will attach the abutments to them. This will secure the titanium post and allow it to be anchored to the artificial crown. Last but not least, the replacement crown will be attached to the implant. The entire process could last anywhere between three to nine months.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Unlike removable dentures and bridges, dental implants are fixed and can only be removed by a dentist or a specialist surgeon in a hospital. They are also quite discrete in nature and can easily blend in with other natural teeth. They match the appearance as well as the functionality of natural teeth. But more importantly, they stimulate the jawbone underneath so it can continue to stay strong and healthy.
If we talk about maintenance, dental implants are miles ahead of other types of restorations. They can last you a lifetime with minimal care. There is no need for special equipment to take care of your implants as you can continue to brush and floss your teeth in the regular fashion.
Single tooth implants are a great way to restore a single missing tooth, whereas for patients with more than one damaged or missing tooth, we have the option of multiple tooth implants. Dealing with a missing tooth is not easy so if you are looking for a way to restore them, Thomas Family Dentistry can help you.
